Managing Experience San Francisco—It's Simply About Good Design
Inaugural Event Inspires Businesses to Embrace Good Design Practices
A sellout crowd of business strategists, creative directors, design managers, and technology industry executives from many of North America's leading companies gathered at the City Club of San Francisco today for the opening session of Adaptive Path's newest event, MX San Francisco. Called "MX," for Managing Experience, the two-day conference functions as an idea exchange, involving thought leaders from both the design and business worlds. The event distinguishes itself from other conferences by synthesizing inspirational keynotes with practical sessions stressing, above all else, the value of good design in all facets of an organization.
MX San Francisco 2007 boasts a comprehensive agenda, along with an impressive roster of speakers including Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO; Caterina Fake, co-founder of the online photo management and sharing site, Flickr; Irene Au, Director of User Experience at Google; notable author, Scott Berkun; Jennie Winhall of the UK Design Council; Doug Beaudet and Sara Ulius-Sabel from Whirlpool; among several other distinguished designers, business leaders, thinkers, and strategists. (For a full listing of speakers, please visit Adaptive Path's event page: www.adaptivepath.com/events/2007/feb/.)
"Good design can lead to positive change within an organization," said Jesse James Garrett, President and founder partner at Adaptive Path. "MX San Francisco provides a forum, unlike any other, for an in-depth discussion of this and other related concepts critical to the competitiveness of today's businesses."
In recent years, design has emerged as a strategic force in business. Managers building the next generation of digital products are confronted with an increasingly demanding set of challenges and expectations. MX San Francisco brings together leading thinkers and practitioners from business and design circles to address these and other similar challenges through the application of good design principles.
Specific topics addressed at the conference include, perspectives on current business and societal trends for design leaders; experience strategies — the key to long-term design value; service design; embedding design practices throughout an organization; from optimization to innovation — why business is turning to design; and the impact of new technologies (mobile, Web 2.0, ubiquitous computing). The conference also includes panel discussions and social time to encourage the sharing of ideas and best practices.
"We're crossing some boundaries with MX San Francisco," noted Garrett. "Instead of having design and product folks by themselves, we also have speakers from some traditional and other non-traditional disciplines to demonstrate the value of experience in all areas of business."
