United Nations Selects Adaptive Path to Redesign ReliefWeb

About Us Sections:

For Immediate Release

San Francisco, CA, March 24, 2003 – The United Nations has selected Adaptive Path, the world’s leading user experience research and design firm, to improve the user experience of ReliefWeb (www.reliefweb.int), the official coordination site for the international humanitarian relief community.

Working with visual design partner Mule Design Studio (www.muledesign.com), Adaptive Path will develop new information architecture, maximize site usability, and improve functionality for this indispensable resource.

ReliefWeb aims to improve the world’s humanitarian response capacity by publishing reliable, timely information about emergencies worldwide. Housed at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, ReliefWeb gathers information from more than 800 sources, including field workers, governments, NGOs, and agencies. ReliefWeb’s charter is to be responsive and accountable to the information needs of decision makers in humanitarian service organizations, while also acting as the foremost research archive to scholars of complex emergencies and natural disasters.

To support quick retrieval of relevant material, Adaptive Path and Mule will organize the site’s information and navigation to reflect user priorities. This site redesign will also make clear the breadth of ReliefWeb content, increasing the site’s overall value to the humanitarian community.

“We’re honored to have been selected to aid in such an important project.” said Lane Becker, project lead and Adaptive Path founding partner, “Now as always, expediting humanitarian relief efforts is crucial.”

Janice Fraser, Adaptive Path founding partner, noted, “With the tremendous breadth of content offered to serve such a wide range of users, the ReliefWeb project presents a challenging set of problems to solve.”
